Managing By Fact Series

Determining Critical Work Processes

This workshop is designed to enable a work group to reaffirm their four or five key objectives, identify the critical work processes that strongly support those key objectives and potentially choose work processes on which to begin documentation. The work group will also engage in skillful discussion and dialogue allowing them to better understand their roles, responsibilities and value to the organization. Additionally, the objective/activity matrix can be used at the beginning of every year to ensure strong linkage for work processes to objective achievement. Once a work group has been facilitated through the processes, they can probably facilitate the next sessions themselves. This workshop is part of the Management by Fact learning continuum.

Documenting Work Processes

This workshop is designed to enable a work group to document their critical work process(s) after they have determined what they are. The group learns how to create a flowchart for their critical work process(s). They go on to define their work process as a set of interrelated work activities characterized by a set of specific inputs and value-added tasks that produce a specific output. The work process(s) are documented because process flowcharts promote a common understanding about how a work process is actually conducted. Everyone touched by the work process or having a stake in its success can benefit from reviewing its flowchart. This workshop is part of the Management by Fact learning continuum.

Improving Work Processes

This workshop is designed to enable a work process team with the tools they
need to be successful. The program focuses in on continuous improvement in
daily work.

Improving work processes relies heavily on the application section of the workshop during which participating team and/or work groups begin process improvement first with a case study and then potentially on one of their own work processes. The goal of the workshop is to introduce the concepts and skills necessary for continuous work process improvement. The program is based on three phases of continuous work process improvement, planning, organizing and monitoring. This workshop is part of the Managing by Fact learning continuum.
